What personal data we collect and why we collect it
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
When messages are sent to us via our contact forms, we collect those messages.
Cookies & Analytics:
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites:
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
We Do Not Receive or Store Credit Card Information:
Credit card numbers are never received nor stored, as all processing is handled by third party processors. The personal information we do have will never be made available to others, with the following exceptions: (1) legal orders, such as subpoenas and (2) repeated serious violation of site rules. Also, moderators have access to some information to enable duplicate account checking. They also may have information that they have access to as part of the moderation of the site, such as abuse reports, appeals, and other information sent by users to the moderators. Moderators are not allowed to share any of that information with non-moderators or anyone not on this site, unless one of the above exceptions apply.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Third Party Advertising
WoodAndShop.com recommends products, with links to online stores, some of which are part of affiliate programs. If users make purchases in those stores (e.g. ebay.com, Amazon.com, Highland Woodworking, etc.) those affiliate links lead to referral compensation to us. These payments are very helpful to us, and add no additional fees to our users, so we are grateful for anyone who uses the affiliate links. We run our website based on principles of integrity, and don’t recommend any product that we wouldn’t use ourselves. Any product claim about a service or product should be verified with the manufacturer.
These rules apply to the entire WoodAndShop.com website:
- Stay positive and be supportive.
- Do not use profanity.
- Do not engage in personal attacks.
- You may not post copyrighted articles, such as articles or other content from other sources. You may post relatively short quotes from articles if you post the link to that article. Also, you will receive a penalty for suggesting, asking for, or providing information about how to (a) break copyright law (including unofficial internet rebroadcasts of games), or (b) violate the terms of service of any site or product.
- Obscene, pornographic, or other questionable content is not allowed.
- You should not respond to inappropriate posts.
- Be civil and respectful to others. Generally, don’t go out of your way to be annoying.
- Please post in English only. The moderators for this board can only consistently moderate in English and will delete any posts that are in any language other than English. Exceptions may be made for words in other languages that are commonly known to English-speakers.
Rules of the Forum:
Browsing, posting, or in any other way using this site requires that you abide by the “Rules of the Forum”.
Modification of posts:
Posts may be modified by the site’s automated software before being posted to the board. These modifications may include sanitizing for acceptable HTML, converting common emoticons to images, and embedding videos linked to within the post.
Use of automated systems (e.g. robots, spiders) to access the content of this site is prohibited. The exception to this policy is public search engines, which may use automated systems to access the content for the purpose of indexing it.
Ad Blocking Software:
Users of this site agree not to use or discuss ad-blocking software when accessing this site.
Users will not participate in nor encourage “click fraud”, which is to click on ads for the purpose of generating a charge per click without having actual interest in the target of the ad’s link.
